Add Polly Inglis to the White Ferns wrecking machine - dominates HBJ (to use coach Sawyer's phrase), gets a contract, gets to go to India for a ODI tour and doesn't play, then not even in the squad for a home ODI series. At least she will have a dozen or more other ex White Ferns, who've been strung along by management, for support
And Hannah Rowe - stats as good as the Kerrs in ODIs, dropped for Molly Penfold who's stats are ... not as good.
Have you had time amongst the massive amounts of sport you follow to check out the domestic Women’s A programme? A serious comp, finally NZC taking it seriously. But some regions (eg Otago) clearly only see it as glorified training for their 1sts team of contracted players though, which is a waste. Otago A squad of 13 has *8* contracted Sparks in it today. What a wasted opportunity.
To be fair Anderson, Greig, Inglis, James all got selected after nice form - I get can bogged down in the negative White Ferns vibes so try to challenge myself with different views. Not too fussed with the squad vs Australia overall but don't expect many wins! The A stuff is great, along with lots of representative games, cultural tournaments because it's just more cricket that eases the jump up to domestic and NZC has invested heavily in offering more cricket for everyone. Each team/province has different needs and sometimes availability can be different with folks working jobs, getting time off etc. Especially in windows like this where there are no domestic games leading up to Super Smash and some teams like Otago will use A games to get contracted players more game time. I try not to judge selections below the top domestic tier because so much real life stuff comes into the mix and the best players earn promotions so it's easy to sort out who has been performing etc. Big ups to the yarns though because all this cricket is fun and we love cricket here in NZ
They have Gaze as the main wicket-keeper, so no need to have Inglis in the squad for a home series when she will be playing Super Smash. Rowe is interesting though, having a solid HBJ Shield so far but Sawyer loves speed/power so Penfold, like Gaze, will keep getting the nod. Penfold has 11w @ 17.9avg in HBJ Shield and Rowe has 6w @ 21.3avg in similar overs so Penfold deserves a crack right now
The assumption this rests on is that the White Ferns brains trust respect form. And little in their past backs that up …
Bella James is a keeper too and a pretty handy one so could be seen as a backup. Which might mean Inglis is yet another selection the White Ferns team make no use of. Almost like they were forced to contract her by someone else.
